Prayer of the Divine Office is an obligation undertaken by priests and deacons intending to become priests, while deacons intending to remain deacons are obliged to recite only a part.[8][9] The constitutions of religious institutes generally oblige their members to celebrate at least parts and in some cases to do so jointly (\"in choir\").[10] Consecrated virgins take the duty to celebrate the liturgy of hours with the rite of consecration.[11] Within the Latin Church, the lay faithful \"are encouraged to recite the divine office, either with the priests, or among themselves, or even individually,\" though there is no obligation for them to do so. The laity may oblige themselves to pray the Liturgy of the Hours or part of it by a personal vow.[12]
The Liturgy of the Hours or Divine Office (latin: liturgia horarum) is the official set of daily prayers prescribed by the Catholic Church to be recited at the canonical hours by the clergy, religious orders, and laity. The Liturgy of the Hours consists primarily of psalms supplemented by hymns and readings. Together with the Mass, it constitutes the official public prayer life of the Church. Living Bread Radio is proud to bring you Morning Prayer, a portion of the Liturgy of the Hours in a basic 4 week cycle. For the last five years a new English language edition of the Liturgy of the Hours has been almost released. It is still almost released so I anticipate two years at the earliest. Here is an announcement from the USCCB. -and-worship/liturgy-of-the-hours/liturgy-of-the-hours-second-edition.cfm The Latin is certainly available should demand justify its being licensed. For the English, I think a print publisher has been selected (just a rumor, can't find a source for that). I don't know if electronic rights are being offered at all.Licensing the current 4 volume translation, not to mention adding links and electronic bookmarks just doesn't make business sense. It may be replace real soon, now.The list of readings and psalms for each day are available for someone who wants to make a person book, but the other prayers and comments are copyright.
Presented under the title Antiphonale monasticum, the work is really entitled Liturgia horarum in cantu gregoriano ad usum Ordinis sancti Benedicti. {Liturgy of the hours in gregorian chant for the use of the Order of Saint Benedict}
The distinct vocation of contemplative communities, by which their members are led to spend long hours in choral celebration, as well as the riches of the medieval repertoire have often given the opportunity to suggest wider, less rigid choices than those of the Roman liturgy. 153554b96e
